Hi loves – this week I wanted to do a recap on my entire course launch that I spent the past month promoting, the Social Media Boss Course.
I want to do a recap on things I’ve learned so that if you ever create a course of your own, hopefully, you can avoid these mistakes!
This entire course launch was a series of lessons being learned, and not even lessons, just realizations that I had.
I love challenging myself – and what better way then to spend hours and hours on a project that was going to provide the most amazing value to my consumers?
1. Do not believe the email list formula.
I did countless hours of research & studying leading up to creating this course, and I had found that if you did a basic generous formula for your email list count, you’d get a rough estimate of what you should price the course at and how many people will most likely participate.
The formula goes something like this: (Revenue) = (Number of subscribers x .02) x (Price of product)
Yeah.. formula did not work.. The result I got from the formula & in real life were no where near each other.
2. Focus & BUILD your email list FIRST!
I thought I had grown a hefty email list and really thought it was ready for me to create a course now, but I don’t think it’s as high as it should’ve been.
Honestly, I would’ve aimed to have 400-500 subscribers on my list before I ever create and sell a digital product again. Focus and nourish your email list first!
3. Include incentives & giveaways.
I tried to do this while I was in the middle of launching & promoting my course, but it seemed to fail. I didn’t have a good enough incentive or giveaway to drive attention to my course, and I think I should’ve done this weeks prior to the launch in all honesty.
Try to do incentives and give away things BEFORE the launch of your course, unlike I did.
4. Be open & be okay to the idea that it may not be successful.
I am the kind of person who goes all in 100% on everything I do, I literally just spent so much time and energy into this course that my mentality was “this WILL be successful.” I mean how could it not? I spent so much time and put so much effort into this, how will people NOT like it?
Wrong. Even if you put houuuuurs and blood, sweat, tears into a project, people do. not. care. Bottom line, if people want it, they’ll buy it. That’s that. So be okay with failure, be open to learning lessons and just taking it as a step forward, because now the next course I create will be EVEN BETTER.
5. Don’t price your course at what the blog experts say you should.
All my research told me to price my course at a ridiculously high amount – AT LEAST $100, nothing under. I was thinking to myself.. this doesn’t sound right, I know my audience, nobody is going to buy a course from me for $100.. I wouldn’t even buy a course for $100, unless it was crazy crazy value I suppose.
Point is, I was hesitant, so I tried to meet in the middle, by pricing it at $75, and even doing a sale launch at $35! That still seemed too expensive for my viewers.
Go with your gut, but don’t be disappointed when things don’t go as planned.
Honestly, all in all, this course launch taught me a lot..
There were many moments towards the end that I just felt defeated, I felt like I had put my all into this piece of work that wasn’t really being received well for some reason, so I’m back to the drawing board, but that’s okay.
Don’t go into creating courses thinking it’s going to be a piece of cake, it’s not. But you’ll be okay with whatever happens, if it’s not successful, that doesn’t mean you won’t be successful in the future.
I think one of the biggest testaments of your character is how you respond when things don’t go as planned, do you give up? Or do you keep going?
Onward and upward!
Did you ever make or create something that was not as successful as you planned it to be? How’d you deal with it?
